第3話：火を継ぐ者

The fire crackled quietly in the cave as Leon sat across from Thoren, the pendant resting in his hands.

 

Outside, the night was silent, but inside, the truth burned brighter than any flame.

 

“Long ago,” Thoren began, “the Flame Clan lived in harmony with the dragons. They were protectors of balance—guides between human and dragon.”

 

Leon listened, eyes fixed on the glowing embers.

 

“But the king changed everything. Arct sought power above all else. He feared the dragons. Feared what they could not control.”

 

Thoren stirred the fire with a stick.

 

“He betrayed the Flame Clan, sealing the dragons and slaughtering those who resisted. That’s how the kingdom became what it is now—ruled by fear, not honor.”

 

Leon’s jaw tightened. “And I’m supposed to fix it?”

 

Thoren looked at him calmly. “You don’t have to.”

 

Leon blinked.

 

“But you’re the last of your bloodline, and the pendant chose to awaken for you. That means the fire still lives. The question is…”

 

Thoren leaned forward, eyes sharp.

 

“Will you let it die? Or will you carry it forward?”

 

Leon looked down at the pendant, then closed his fist around it.

 

“I don’t know how. I don’t even know what I’m doing.”

 

Thoren smiled slightly. “No one ever does, at first.”

 

“But the fire will show you the way—if you’re willing to walk through it.”

レオンは唇をかみしめる。
「……で、それを俺がどうにかしろって？」
トーレンは穏やかに首を振る。
「無理にそうしろとは言わん。」
「だがな……お前は最後の血を引く者。そして、このペンダントはお前の手で目覚めた。」
「つまり、“焔”はまだ生きている。」
彼は身を乗り出して、レオンを見つめた。
「それを……燃やし尽くすか、それとも継ぐか。」
レオンはペンダントを見つめ、そっと拳を握る。
「……俺にはどうしたらいいのか、分からない。」
トーレンはかすかに笑った。
「誰だって、最初は分からんさ。」
「だがな——炎は、お前を導くだろう。お前に、それを受け入れる覚悟があるならば。」
