第2話：失われた力

Leon woke in a cave, cold sweat on his brow and ash clinging to his clothes.

 

He sat up slowly, wincing at the pain in his legs. The last thing he remembered was the fire… and running.

 

“Ah, you’re awake.”

 

A frail voice came from deeper in the cave. An old man stepped into view, wearing a long, faded robe. His eyes were sharp despite his age.

 

“My name is Thoren,” the old man said. “You’re lucky to be alive, boy.”

 

Leon struggled to his feet. “Who were those soldiers? Why did they burn the village?”

 

Thoren sighed, sitting beside the fire. “They came for you.”

 

Leon froze. “Me?”

 

Thoren nodded. “Because you carry it—the blood of the flame dragon. A power the king fears.”

 

Leon stared at him, confused. “What are you talking about?”

 

Thoren pointed to Leon’s chest. “You were wearing this.”

 

He held up a small metal pendant, charred at the edges. On its surface was a faint engraving of a flame-shaped sigil.

 

“It once belonged to the Flame Clan. You, Leon, are their last heir.”

 

Leon took the pendant with trembling hands. Something inside it—inside him—felt warm, alive.

 

He wasn’t just a survivor. He was something more.

「彼らは——お前を狙って来たのだ。」
「……俺を？」
トーレンは頷いた。
「お前の中には宿っている。焔竜の血がな。」
「王が最も恐れる力、それが……お前の中にある。」
レオンは理解できず、ただ戸惑うばかりだった。
「……何を言ってるんだ……」
トーレンはレオンの胸元を指差す。
「お前が身につけていた、これを見ろ。」
彼の手には、焦げ跡の残る金属製のペンダントが握られていた。
その表面には、かすかに炎のような紋章が刻まれている。
「これはかつて、“焔の一族”が身につけていた証だ。」
「レオン。お前はその最後の継承者なのだ。」
レオンは震える手でペンダントを受け取る。
中から、何かが熱を持って脈打つような感覚がした。
彼は、ただの生き残りではなかった。
——自分の中に、“何か”が眠っている。
